Artist, Santa Barbara
Growing up on the coast of Northern California, I was surrounded by fog and hills and wild animals and evergreen trees. These parts of my childhood have undoubtedly seeped into my artwork as an adult. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, but only recently have these aspects of my earlier days began to appear in my drawings and paintings.
I pull my inspiration from my surroundings, whether they be past or present. I rarely plan out my pieces. The most enjoyment I can get from something I'm working on is when it takes an unexpected turn and I have to work and twist and squish it until I can manage to make it some kind of beautiful again. That's why I love the freedom of art; It is understood and it is powerful. And it's all up to the artist- no rules, no laws. I am twenty-six years old and I am self taught, in the formal sense, but I am constantly learning from all of those around me, and who came before me. Art simultaneously calms and excites me, which is very sensational. I find it to be well-spent, and I deeply appreciate and enjoy when my work affects others.
